Start-up Visa Program (Currently Paused)

Canada's Start-up Visa Program was designed for immigrant entrepreneurs with the skills and potential to build businesses in Canada that:

  • Are innovative
  • Can create jobs for Canadians
  • Can compete on a global scale

Current Status:

The Start-up Visa Program is paused. IRCC stopped accepting new work permit applications for Start-up Visa applicants on December 19, 2025, except from people already in Canada applying to extend their current Start-up Visa work permit. IRCC stopped accepting new commitment certificates and new program applications after December 31, 2025, except from applicants who had a valid commitment from a designated organization made in 2025 and had not yet applied; those applicants had to apply by June 30, 2026. Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)

Many Canadian provinces have streams for entrepreneurs.

  • OINP (Ontario): The OINP is changing. The new Ontario Workforce Priority stream has now launched and all other streams are now closed.
  • BC PNP (British Columbia): Entrepreneur Immigration Regional stream, for individuals starting a new business outside the Metro Vancouver Regional District in a participating B.C. community.
